A WHEELY FUN TIME

On Friday, we decided to go back to the city center--we’re starting to become regulars and we’re really getting the hang of it. I’ve walked more this past week and a half than I think I have all of last semester. We found some really great deals at Primark--a magical store with great styles and even better prices. Primark is still very new in the US, so it hasn’t made its way to Texas yet. I’m waiting for the day it does though. Before going home to have dinner on the couch watching movies on Netflix, we went to the movie theatre here and saw a scary movie. The movie theaters here are “Pathe!” instead of “AMC.” The scariest thing about the whole experience was that I was in theater 6, row 6, and seat 6 for a scary movie. Super weird coincidence.
The next day, I went for my run on the beach as usual and friends with a couple more dogs--one of my favorite hobbies here in the Hague. I had no clue that dogs could be even friendlier until I met the dogs in Holland. Running down the coastline is one of my favorite things to do now, but I have this habit of losing track of time and running further than I originally planned which can end up in runs as long as 11.5 miles. I really am grateful for how close our little home is to the beach here. Mackenzie and I went back to the city center on good ol’ bus 24 as usual and treated ourselves to actual dinner (not powdered soup or bread that is starting to go stale). Let me tell you, this meal was great! I got a dutch version of a thin cheese (kaas) pizza which was amazing. I had no clue that the Netherlands were known for their cheese, but now that I know, I’m going to eat it as often as I can.
On Sunday, we decided to explore a part of the Hague we hadn’t seen yet. We had heard great things about Scheveningen and wanted to see what all the talk was about. After a morning run, we made our way over to the pier. To me, it seemed like the Dutch equivalent of Huntington Beach or Santa Monica Pier. Something about the beach here honestly takes my breath away every time It’s crazy to think that the beach will never look exactly the same ever again--tides change, lighting changes. It’s always going to be different. Maybe that’s why I love going to the beach so often; it’s always a new adventure. We noticed that the beach had a ferris wheel and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get an incredible view of the Hague. To get to the ferris wheel, we had to walk through a little market that was over the water. We passed the cutest food places and shops with homemade goods. We treated ourselves to some amazing fries and walked around the beach for a while before the wind started to pick up and clouds rolled in. We made it into a restaurant for some tomato soup right before it started to hail.
